Rouhani says MPs’ call for question unlawful but he will respond

TEHRAN, Aug. 05 (MNA) – Iranian President Rouhani sent a letter to Parliament Speaker Larijani saying that the call for questioning him is not in keeping with the Constitution of Iran, but he will go before the parliament to answer the questions.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani cabled a letter to Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani saying that the MPs call for questioning president is not in keeping with the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Earlier on Wednesday, Ali Larijani said “a total number of 92 out of the 290 members of Parliament filed a request to pose question on President Rouhani, which was examined by the Economic Commission; after reviewing the questions, 80 insisted on their request, confirming the process of questioning the president, according to the article 88 of the Constitution.”

Rouhani asserts in his letter that the questioning call was not at the right time and conditions of the country. He added that however he will go before the parliament in order to avoid any kind of discord among the branches of power in the Islamic Republic of Iran and respect the parliament, “I will go to the parliament in due course and answer the questions.”

Here comes the full text of his letter to Larijani:

In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful

Dear Dr .Larijani,

Honorable Speaker of the Islamic Consultative Assembly,

Hello and peace be upon you,

Respectfully, exactly on the anniversary of the swearing-in ceremony of the 12th president, the planning of a questioning session was put forward by respectful representatives of the Islamic Consultative Assembly. Without a doubt, questioning the President can be welcomed with observing at least two points; first, it must be within the framework of the Constitution, and second, it must be put forward in the right time and conditions of the country, none of which were unfortunately met. But in order to avoid any kind of disagreement among the branches and respect the Islamic Consultative Assembly, I will go to the Majlis in due course and answer questions. Of course, this can be a good opportunity to state the facts to the dear people of my country, for they are the true owners of the country, from whose votes my and your legitimacy comes from.
